CURRENT WORK & PROJECTS...

Have a peek at what I am currently getting up to!

STARRING IN CONTRADICKTION WITH Same Circle Theatre

Contradicktion, performed and co-written by me, is a one-man-show following James, who has just come out as queer but pretty soon, he starts to feel the wrath of the toxic cultures that run wild through the LGBTQIA+ community.

DEVELOPING VARIOUS NEW WRITING PROJECTS

After a 6 year hiatus from writing, I am finally getting stuck in again with various projects, with a view to further research and development, to get them on their feet and on stages wherever I can! I'm writing a solo show, a two-hander and a much larger piece. The muse is finally upon me again and it feels great!

STARRING IN SAFER BY SARAH JANE DICKENSON

For over a year now, I have been taking Safer to theatres, sports clubs and schools all over the place. Safer dissects inclusion in team sports, particularly through the lens of the LGBTQIA+ community, because as a community, we often feel unwelcome in sports and Safer aims to change that.

NON-ACTING/WRITING RELATED PROJECTS

It's important to me to keep myself active and pursue other projects and develop other skills (otherwise I'd go mad). Here's some of my other projects and bits and bobs I keep myself busy with!

LEARNING BRTISH SIGN LANGUAGE

I've always been fascinated with languages. Communication in all its forms really interests me. When it comes to BSL specifically, I am a huge advocate for accessibility, not just in the arts, but across the board. It is great that this integration of BSL is now in the conversation, but there's so much more to do, and I would love to help us on the way to getting there. As of 2011, there were 151,000 BSL users in the UK, and that number continues to rise, which is such a positive step for inclusion. So as a personal project, I'm undertaking a course in BSL to be able to communicate in it fluently.

GYM AND FITNESS

Having a hidden disability has always made going to the gym and pursuing personal fitness quite difficult. Despite being born with it, I was only made aware of my condition when I was 18 and this made me essentially down tools on everything I used to do from tennis, to martial arts, to swimming and beyond. It has taken a long time to get back out there and reach for my fitness goals, but I'm finally doing it (and I'd like to personally thank Covid for making me gain the weight that have forced me into this). So nowadays, you may catch me in the gym - in which case, no, my face doesn't always look like that...

LEARNING THE DRUMS

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to play the drums. Whenever I go to a gig, I have always been drawn to the drummer and wished I could do what they do. When I was younger, I got into music by playing the violin and the oboe and while these were great ventures into the world of music and taught me an awful lot, my heart always was with the drums and the desire to learn never really stopped. In my spare time, grabbing my drumsticks is such a mind-cleanser and great for self-expression and my mental health generally, and maybe one day, I'll play in front of people for a change. Watch this space!
