ACCESS: A gold rugby shirt with 'Pride in Hull' written across the middle stands at the forefront of the image. The Hull Roundheads logo, a white helmet on a rainbow background, is on the chest of the shirt and the club's sponsor, Akuma, is on the other side. The right sleeve is red. Either side of the shirt stands a rainbow rugby ball. To the right of the shirt is a rugby boot with rainbow laces. To the right is an image of rugby posts with a tree behind them. Above the image stands a row of trees and the Humber Bridge travels along behind it. The word 'SAFER' in white lettering stands in front of the Bridge.

CAST IN SAFER BY SARAH JANE DICKENSON

29 August 2023

Safer, a show that has recently graced Hull Truck Theatre, as well as the Commonwealth Games no less, is getting a brand new cast member - me!

Born from stories and experiences told by members of the Hull Roundheads Rugby Team, Safer discusses the need for more inclusive spaces within sports, specifically through the lens of the LGBTQIA+ community.

A two-hander, written by Sarah Jane Dickenson, has taken the experiences of the Roundheads, anonymised them, and dramatised them into a theatre piece, where both actors play six characters each. The goal of the show is to inform research into both inclusive sporting spaces, applied theatre and to tour nationwide venues, sports clubs and education providers - it's a huge project!

Already seeing plenty of success, I am delighted to have been asked to have joined this team and am looking forward to starting on this project in September. Stay tuned for more updates on this project. You never know, we may end up at a venue near you!
