ACCESS: Aidan stands in the foreground taking a selfie, smiling into camera. He wears a black t-shirt and blue lanyard around his neck. In the background is the Leeds Playhouse foyer - big red neon letters reading 'Leeds Playhouse' hang above his head. Underneath them are lots of black and white photos from Leeds Playhouse's work. Next to Aidan are two other faded photographs of him, one standing outside York Theatre Royal, and the other outside Hull Truck Theatre.

we finished writing
contradicktion!

30 April 2023

Returning to Same Circle Theatre and more deeply working on bringing Contradicktion to life has been one of the biggest pleasures of my career - hands down!

After successfully receiving funding from Arts Council England, Hull City Council and Hull Truck Theatre, Same Circle asked me to return to work together with my co-writer and director, Sean Climie, to knuckle down and get Contradicktion written and a section of it stage-ready.

Sean and I took the feedback from our previous R&D last year and also new information from focus groups and workshops delivered in Leeds, York and Hull, to flesh out the storyline (no spoilers here, sorry!) which like any writing process, took us down a few rabbit holes and a few crazy, terrible ideas, buuuuut WE FINISHED IT!

Throughout these four weeks working at Leeds Playhouse, York Theatre Royal and Hull Truck, we worked closely with outstanding writers, directors and theatre-makers including Josh Overton, Rachael Abbey, John R. Wilkinson and Sarah Llewellyn-Shore which also helped devise and inform the work.

The final showing took place at Hull Truck Theatre last night and it felt amazing! In fact, you can check out some audience feedback here. And if you missed it, well... keep your eyes peeled for me, okay?!
